I cannot wait until I have my own classroom, I am hoping to teach kindergarteners. I can already picture how I would want my classroom to be, I have high expectations for myself but I understand that it dose not always happen the way you want. when I observe other teachers classroom I am able to picture what I would want to have in my classroom and what i wouldn't want. I would defiantly want my classroom to be inviting and friendly. I would have the students work hung up on the walls, so all the students can be proud of their work. Also, I would have rules hung up on the walls so that all the students know what is appropriate in the classroom. I want to be able to give students a warm and controlled atmosphere. As a teacher I would have to control the classroom with rules and class management, but also be caring and comforting to the students. If the students ever needed to talk to me they would know they could always come talk to me about anything and I would be there for them. also, within my classroom environment I would want the pace to be slow so that no one would fall behind. As a former special education student, I know how it feels to fall behind from the rest of the class.
Not only would I want to give my students the perfect atmosphere and give them a welcoming environment, but I would want my lesson to be able to work for all the students. I would try to accommodate all different types of learners. Every student learns differently and some students need certain accommodations because of their disability. Knowing that I will have special education students in my classroom, their lesson plan will be a little different from the rest of the class. Furthermore, I will try to have lessons that can get the students interested in learning and get them to have a hands on learning experience. I will try to have lessons that can be auditory, visual and kinesthetic. By accommodating to all students this will be able to benefit them in school and understand the material better. Overall, I hope when I have my own classroom someday I will be able to accommodate all the students and make them feel great about themselves while enjoying to learn!
You should always have high expectations for yourself, although it may not always work out the way you planned, you will most definitely be able to stick your mind to more than you could imagine. Every time i walk into someone else's classroom i always think of what i would want from theirs in mine, or what i wouldn't want. For students to feel safe and warm in your classroom and your environment to be a controlled environment is such a good thing to always keep in mind while looking for decorations for your room, or even what you want your children to feel while being in your classroom. I commend you on wanting to be a special needs teacher, because of your own experiences, that is an amazing reason as to why! When you said you want to accommodate to every child and their learning styles it really makes teaching worth it when every child can get something out of the lessons you are doing! I think you will be a great teacher one day based just off what you have said!
ReplyDeleteI would like to become a kindergarten teacher too! I feel like that is such a great age. The children are actually excited to come to school and learn. So, making it fun is so important because you do want them to continue to enjoy learning. My favorite thing to do is envision what my future classroom looks like. I love going into classrooms and seeing what I like and what I would like to incorporate in my own classroom.
ReplyDeleteIt is also important to have a welcoming environment for the students. School is like a home away from home for them, so it is like a mini family. If everyone feels like they belong in the classroom, then the class will be fun for them.
It is also great that you have prior experience in being a special education student. Now you know what it feels like to be a little behind, so you will be passionate towards your students that need a little more time! I believe that you will be able to accommodate your students well because it seems like you care a lot already for your future students.
When you picture your classroom, what do you hope it will look like?
It's awesome that you already know that you want to teach kindergarten. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what grade I want to teach. I can totally relate to always thinking about how you want your classroom to look like. One of my friends just recently started teaching 1st grade in San Antonio and one of the first things I told him was that I wanted to decorate his class for him. It's really great that you have already thought a lot about having a classroom that accommodates all different types of students, including special education students. Are you majoring in special education at SNHU?
